Who is Southcoasting Navigators ?

Southcoasting Navigators is a company formed in 1994 by Paul Cunningham, MCA Master 3000T, Chief Engineer II, Nautical Surveyor, Compass Adjuster, Yachtmaster Examiner, Ocean Routing Navigator.

Paul Cunningham

MCA Master, Compass Adjuster, Nautical Surveyor, Marine Electrical Test Engineer, Yachtmaster Examiner.

Paul has been successful in all aspects of seamanship including ocean racing having completed 9 Fastnet Races, 7 Bermuda Races and more than 100 other ocean races worldwide including the infamous Sydney-Hobart Races. With many successes recorded including RORC Champion Skipper and Royal Torbay YC Champion of Champions.    

Paul has logged more than 212,000 sea miles during his long career and through Southcoasting Navigators offers many specialist services to the marine sector including; Vessel surveying and compass adjusting (he has adjusted more than 1,525 magnetic compasses in his career so far), relief Captain and/or deliveries of vessels including commercial vessels and yachts / Superyachts to 3,000 tons. Marine Consultancy to a diverse selection of navigation and technical engineering companies within the marine market. Supply of qualified and experienced technical staff/qualified and competent vessel crews. In addition, Commercial Instructing of navigation, safety, seamanship and engineering courses. Operating worldwide.

Ashley Perrin

Ashley Perrin is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and one of very few qualified Ice Pilots in the world. As such she spends most of the Southern Hemisphere summer in Antartica. She has amassed over 170,000 ocean miles of piloting, racing and deliveries on many types of yachts and ice class boats including Class 40, IRC 46, Farr 40, J105, J120, GL70, Andrews 56, Moore 24, Etchells, 27M Jongert, Z86, IACC Yachts, RP70. Ashley has also raced offshore since age 13, with 5 Fastnets, 2 Transatlantics and 5 Pacific crossings and two Round Britain and Ireland races to her credit. In 2006 she was onboard Lively Lady II the winner of the St David's Lighthouse Division in the 100th Newport Bermuda Race, she was also on the winning boat in the Rolex Transatlantic Race 2005 and the 2009 winner of the Caribbean 600 race. 2016 San Francisco Yachtswoman of the year. Married to Merf Owen the celebrated naval architect, Ashley's background gives her an in-depth knowledge of the industry.

Tracey Cunningham

Tracey Cunningham is an MCA STCW First Aid Instructor and RYA First Aid at Sea Instructor and medical courses provider. She is also an established RYA Powerboat Instructor, Coastal Skipper yachtswoman and accomplished sailor, being also Royal Torbay YC Champion of Champions 2018.     

Tracey has vast experience in yachts, motor cruisers, keelboats, racing dinghies and RIBs, enabling her to add great relevance to her medical training courses. Time spent recently onboard a large general cargo merchant ship has added value to her STCW First Aid course. She is now offering a dedicated superyacht crew and guest medical course onboard vessel, in addition to her normal syllabus.

Tracey's full-time occupation is running a busy community hospital for the UK National Health Service. She is qualified in MIU and acute care as well as primary and secondary care and has developed her career in this field since the age of 18.
